Role Purpose:
The Senior Analyst Business Development is accountable to deliver in a timely manner different studies for different formats in multiple countries, responsible for managing functionally the analyst(s) and transfer expertise through e-training and physical training (OJT). Active in the business development digitization, responsible to manage the implementation of the tool that will generate sales estimations in the relevant countries. Capable to provide strong business analytic decision support to business partners in various countries
Role Details Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Sales studies for all store formats
Collect the exact number of households living in the defined catchment by visiting each site and neighborhood:
For convenience walk the catchment zone within 5 -10 minutes
For Supermarkets drive (5-10-15 minutes) and Hypermarkets drive (10-20-30 minutes)
Prepare elements such as site pictures with street and shop front, parking, and obtain the project description if required i.e… Mall projects.
Gather the Competition data (Google placemark location, Brand, sales area and if possible, store turnover)
Identify and analyze the levels of wealth in the catchment (from A to D levels)
Provide insightful data on several topics (New developments and construction occupancy rate, Planned cities etc.) and strategic recommendations
Determine the sales estimation for all projects by calculating for each zone the number of households, penetration rate, visit frequency and average basket.
Capable to assess cannibalization impact on own operational store(s) in the catchment
Post opening customer surveys
Produce and tailor customer surveys with the relevant stakeholders in the countries
Train the staff to set up the customer interviews and monitor the smooth operation during the surveys.
Accountable for delivering consistency in the daily defined number of interviews (ex. 300-400 for convenience stores over 7 days)
For each store, provide a report that includes the actual catchment area of the store with the actual penetration rate, frequency of visits and average basket by zone as well as customer feedback and strategic recommendations/business plan updates for immediate action.
City Potential Studies
Perform the Population analysis by splitting the city in different homogeneous areas based on each citys demographics
For each area, the following informations will be defined using statistical institutes
Population/households
Standard of living (A to E classification)
Dwelling type (buildings, villas, industrial)
Physically screen the city by touring with the country business development team in all the predefined zones
Perform the food retail analysis by area with a census on competition and locate on a map the Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, and convenience stores to calculate their turnover.
Define the food market potential in the city using the approved mathematical formula (some areas will be automatically be excluded from being a potential area for opening a Carrefour store)
Prepare the city potential based on the market share, to achieve the retail food market in the future
Determine the potential number of stores that need to be opened for each city using the approved methodology
Benchmarking and Reporting
Update the competition database to monitor the expansion strategy (opening pace, location, sales area) Post relevant data / information to management information systems
Prepare periodical reports, analyze the efficiency of the planning and propose areas for improvement
System Management
Responsible to implement the sales estimate interactive tool and train the analyst(s) in the relevant countries
Identify possible system enhancements and propose with solid ROI tool adjustments
Human Capital Responsibilities
Assist in the selection through recruitment of the analyst(s) in the countries
Responsible to train and transfer expertise through e-training and physical on job training
Accountable during the training period (6 8 months) for the sales estimations prepared by the analyst(s) in the countries
Manage functionally the analyst(s) in the countries while operationally they will report to the country head of business development
Ensure the implementation of MAF Retails corporate policies and relevant procedures
Definition of Success
Accelerate expansion in priority countries
Timeliness and accuracy of reports
Successful localization of expertise with adequate gatekeepers
Digitization of the sales estimate tool
Functional/Technical Competencies
Good knowledge of the Retail industry
Preferably retail stores background/experience
Field person capable to explore new sites
Proficient in English
Driving license
Personal Characteristics and Required Background:
Minimum Qualifications/education
Masters degree in Marketing Strategy/Market Research/Statistics
Minimum experience
5+ years of experience in a similar role
