Basic Function The Service Line Manager would be responsible to improve and develop the geotechnical service line capacity including the planning and implementation of the various activities within the service line. The successful candidate is expected to implement the long-term growth strategy which consists of developing the geohazard and geo-mapping team, integrating the various services within the geotechnical service line, implementation of the service growth plan, as well as the training and coaching of personnel. The successful candidate is also expected to ensure that the a team of more than 20 Geologists, Engineers and Data Specialists within the geotechnical service line team are provided with technical, commercial, and leadership support throughout the execution of the geotechnical contracts. Key Responsibilities
Responsible for maximizing the overall performance of the Geotechnical Line and is accountable to achieve the agreed yearly revenue and profit targets;
Develops and executes the short-term strategy of the Geotechnical Line. Aims to strengthen the market position and generate profitable growth while developing the careers of employees;
To develop the geotechnical business strategy in conjunction with the Business Line Manager and Regional Business Line Director;
Understand market and competitive trends;
Accountable to achieve agreed yearly revenue targets of the Service Line;
Strengthen market position and generate profitable growth;
To maintain regular contact with key clients and prospective clients to seek feedback on performance, understands new needs and creates leads;
Preparation of technical/commercial proposals for geotechnical related opportunities;
Client negotiations;
To oversee and direct the continual development and enhancement of the technical procedures and capabilities in line with the business strategy;
Shows and applies true management commitment and exemplary leadership to deepen and strengthen the safety culture throughout the company and drive adherence of the Service Line to Fugro HSSE Management Systems, policies and standards;
Approval of project execution plans, method statements, schedules, QHSE plans, risk assessments and similar to address stringent Client HSE and technical requirements in line with Company procedures;
Supervise and monitor a team of more than 20 Geologists, Engineers and Data Specialists providing direction, support and assistance as necessary;
Continuous communication and liaison with clients and operation department, and other project stakeholders to ensure timely submission of deliverables and client satisfaction;
Collate, track and present project KPIs to maintain cost and contractual control at all times;
Attending and conducting regular internal/external technical project meetings, kick-off meetings and safety sessions;
Developing the careers of employees.
Qualifications Required
M.Sc. or B.Sc. level in civil, geotechnical or geology;
Skills / experience required to do the job;
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in a mix of project and business management;
Strong experience in field mapping, including work in remote, previously undeveloped areas
Experience in geohazard identification and mitigation recommendations
Field experience with geotechnical investigations or similar, particularly as a Lead Geologist/Engineer with site management responsibilities
Strong experience in integrated reporting incorporating multi-discipline observations, recommendations and summarizations
Experience in digitization of data
Strong experience in multiple software platforms, such as RocScience, Leapfrog, gINT or similar, Microsoft office
Project Management experience
Published articles and papers a plus
Ability to assess project requirements and impart technical directions to geotechnical project managers;
Understanding and ability to manage department finances;
Keen commercial awareness and contractual management experience;
Self-motivated, pro-active, committed and flexible with strong problem-solving skills;
Ability to work effectively in a multi-national and multi-cultural work environment;
Excellent verbal and written skills both internally and with client (English is essential, Arabic and other languages may be advantageous).
Principal Working Relationships
Work with the Senior Leadership team to establish Business Plan;
Play a pro-active role in establishing new business relationships and maintain a close working relationship with clients;
Liaise with the accountants for financial control of all financial aspects of the Service Line;
Work with Operation/Project Managers for efficient execution of projects.
