College Profile

The College of Arts and Sciences(CAS) houses ten departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature &Linguistics and Arabic Languages, History, Sociology, Social Work, International Affairs, Mass Communication, Psychology, Policy,Planning &Development, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Material Science, and Sports Science. The College also houses Master Programs, which are in Environmental Sciences, Gulf Studies, Material Science and Arabic Language. In Fall 2013, CAS launched a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers. Also, the newly established research centers namely the Center for Sustainable Development and Gulf Studies Center. The College also startied a Phd in Gulf Studies, a Mater in Applied Statistics, and a Master in Public Health in Fall 2015.

It is worth mentioning that as members of QU, CAS faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure intramural and extramural funding for their research ideas. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is major source of research funding, with individual project funding limit exceeding 1million/project (5million exceptional projects) along with student research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, Qatar University is the recipient of most of QNRF awards, with many research- active faculty members able to win multiple grants.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Description

The Gulf Studies Program is seeking a Full/Associate Professor who is motivated to teach and develop graduate courses in the field of Political Economy of the Gulf as part of the Gulf Studies graduate program. Candidate should have strong teaching and research interests in economy, political economy and all related topics with emphasis on the Gulf region. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate courses, contributing to the program curriculum, supervising graduate student research, and contributing to the research portfolio of the Center as well as the College. All QU Faculty members must demonstrate effectiveness in the following categories: teaching, academic advising and program development, scholarly research, professional or creative activities and institutional/community service.

Duties& Responsibilities
Teach courses and supervise students in the area of Political Economy of the Gulf.
Contribute to various committees at the Program, College, and University level.
Contribute to the research profile of College through research publications.
Serve as graduate student advisor.
Provide advice, support and supervise student’s research and thesis
Provision of a general educational lectures and sessions for students
Active participation in the program and college activities and committees.
Offer significant input into the further development of Gulf Program and Research Center.
Provide service to the profession, university, the community, and the State of Qatar.
Perform other academic duties in accordance with Qatar University academic by laws.
Qualifications
Ph. D. in the Relevant disciplinary area, such as political economy, economy, economy of the Gulf.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English required.
Arabic Language is preferred
Record of graduate studies supervision.
Strong peer reviewed publication record.
Teaching experience at tertiary level.
Familiarity with and interest in, the Gulf region is strongly preferred.
Familiar with Educational technologies used in higher education sector.
Willingness to work with teams.
Awareness of working with people from diverse backgrounds.
